MY STORY

kinauvunga - who I am

Atelihai! Greetings! My name is Vanessa Webb, and I am an Inuk from Nain, Nunatsiavut. I am an anânak to three beautiful humans. I have spent my career as a Registered Nurse specializing in the field of antenatal, labour and delivery, postpartum, and breastfeeding supports. I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
I am very proud of where I come from, and the beautiful life I was raised in - with strong connections to our Inuit culture and traditions. I was surrounded by a big loving family, aunties and cousins who breastfed their babies, where we would go to large community gatherings, and breasts were out and babies fed, and this was the norm. I am extremely passionate about all things birthing, and strongly advocate for the revitalization of traditional Inuit midwives within Nunatsiavut.
I am a daughter of a residential school survivor; and I whole-heartedly believe that empowering birthing persons and their families, by engaging traditional Inuit beliefs, language and practices that were taken during colonization, is a huge step towards healing of intergenerational traumas. Birth is the beginning, the start of beautiful new life. By building strong physical, emotional, and spiritual connections throughout pregnancy, allows for a strong foundation for parents and their baby, to be supported throughout their life.
I welcome all families with open arms who are looking for one-on-one prenatal classes, and comprehensive guidance with feeding their young, human-milk.
